Our Vision

The Vista School Counseling Center is committed to providing a college and career readiness comprehensive counseling program as a vehicle to assist students in acquiring and using life-long learning and self-managing skills. We are committed to implementing a preventative program and supportive interventions to assist students with career exploration and literacy, encourage self-awareness, promote student achievement, and maximize student potential.

College & Career Focus

Utah State Colleges & College Week

Check out all of the State Universities in Utah! There are so many choices that are nearby. Make sure to see how DSU has grown.

College Week:

1. Monday – Teachers talk about their alma maters. Students greeted with college fight songs. DSU video clip and announcements by DSU alumnists.

2. Tuesday – Tuesday Trivia. Bring back your take home Interview Sheet for a chance to win a prize. 1st – 3rd grade learn new things  about colleges from trivia posted on the walls. 4th – 5th grade enjoy Trivia Bowl at lunch. 6th – 8th grade enjoy Kahoot. (Thank you to DSU, SUU, and Weber State for donating the prizes.) SUU video clip and announcements by SUU alumnists.

3. Wednesday – K-3 grade decorate graduation caps with something you love to do. 4th – 7th grade decorate a college pennant. 8th grade field trip to DSU. (UofU video clip and announcements by UofU alumnists)

4. Thursday – College and Career Fair put on by the 7th grade College and Career Awareness Classes. (WSU video clip and announcements by The Special Education Paras, who highlighted where they went to college.)

5. Friday – Fun at lunch!! DSU soccer team skills drills, and DSU team vs. Vista faculty! (DSU 2 Vista 0) Stickers and sidewalk chalk. The teachers also talked about a career that is related to their degree. (Utah State video clip and announcements by Utah State alumnists.)

Make a list of everything you like to do. Then look up careers that are related. It might surprise you how many options you have.

What is the phone number for the Counseling Center?

Because we are often working with students, the very best way to reach someone in the Counseling Center is by e-mail: Mrs. Richins: nrichins@vistautah.com or Mrs. Ehlers: mehlers@vistautah.com.

What services are provided at the Counseling Center?

The Counseling Center is here to support students with emotional, behavior, and life skills. The Center is also a support for Academics, Attendance, Student Achievement, College Preparation, and Curriculum. We also serve as the Class Registration Office.

What if I need something and the Counseling Center is closed or no one is in the office?

Please feel free to e-mail your question or concern – nrichins@vistautah.com. You can also fill out a Concern For The Counselor paper in the Counseling Center.

Do I need an appointment to see the counselor?

Because we are often with students, it is always encouraged to set up an appointment, the very best way to do this is by e-mail: nrichins@vistautah.com or mehlers@vistautah.com.

When is the best time for a student to stop by the Counseling Center?

4th – 8th grade is before school, or during your lunch.

K-3rd grade it is before school, or often Mrs. Richins is in the lunchroom for a bit during your lunch.

How do I change my schedule?

Schedule changes are now by administrative approval only. You many stop by the Counseling Center and fill out an orange schedule change request form.

How do I enroll at Vista and where can I learn about the elective courses you offer?

Once you have been invited to enroll, you can find enrollment forms and course descriptions on our school website under the enrollment tab.

Why did I get the classes I have on my schedule?

The Counseling Center staff spends months working to get each student as many of their top choices as possible. There are always a few class conflicts and we do have to make sure that students fill all of their State required classes. These two factors do dictate the building of a schedule.
