Vista Title One Parent Involvement Policy

As the parent of a VISTA AT ENTRADA student, your involvement in our school and its continued operation is critical. Your time and effort helps create a better educational experience for our students. Your assistance at VISTA AT ENTRADA also demonstrates your commitment to your child’s education and offers a sense of personal pride in knowing that you’ve made a difference.  Additionally, our teachers count on adult help and integrate it into their lesson plans. Our administrators benefit from the input and expertise of parent committee’s in the areas of school management and organization. Therefore, parental commitment must be consistent, judicious, and dependable.

As a Target Assistance Title 1 school, VISTA AT ENTRADA has several programs to help students in need of intensive instruction in the core subjects.  We strongly encourage parents to volunteer during the instructional day.  VISTA AT ENTRADA will host a Title 1 meeting each school year in conjunction with meet your teacher night to inform parents of the school’s participation under Title I and to explain Title I requirements and parents’ rights to be involved.  Teachers will also inform parents regarding the curriculum used in the school, the forms of assessment used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet.

Parents who are interested in serving on one or more of the following committees will have the opportunity to be appointed at the beginning of each school year if there are openings.

  •        Land Trust Committee
  •        Special Education Steering Committee
  •        PTO
  •        Accreditation Committee
  •        Title 1 Committee

The responsibilities of the school, parents, and children in increasing student learning and achievement are identified in our Student/Parent/School Compact. The compacts are reviewed and signed during our fall parent‐teacher conferences.  Periodically, parents of participating children are invited to review the compact and make suggestions for revisions.

When appropriate, PTO will work to build partnerships with organizations, community outreach centers, businesses and other schools in the community. These partnerships will be formed in order to improve the involvement of the community in the school, through volunteer work or the donation of gifts, and the involvement of the school in the community.

Parents will receive timely information on their children’s progress through parent‐teacher conferences, midterm progress reports, trimester report cards, and teacher phone calls. Parents may also monitor children’s homework completion and current grade status through SIS.   Parents of children in third through eighth grade will receive a report on their children’s yearly progress on CRT’s in the fall.  The school’s annual report card will also be disseminated through the school website.

Parent teacher conferences are held two times per year. Conferences are scheduled during the day and in the evening to accommodate parents’ schedules. Spanish translators are provided to facilitate communication between teachers and parents.

Parents are encouraged to take the initiative in calling their children’s teachers when they are concerned. They may also call the school office and ask for a conference.

The VISTA AT ENTRADA Leadership Team and the Title One Committee will review our school data, evaluate school progress, and identify annual school improvement goals. Parents are encouraged to fill out the yearly survey to assist the committee with the evaluation of the content and effectiveness of the Title 1 program on an annual basis.   VISTA AT ENTRADA Parental Involvement Policy will be revised on the basis of the annual review. All information will be disseminated during our yearly  “Meet Your Teacher Night.”
