Vista Transportation Organization
What is Vista Transportation Organization?
The VTO was formed and is operated by parents like you! Vista is a great school and we wanted to find a more economic and convenient way to get our children to and from school. With assistance and donations from Vista families, we are able to provide this great service. None of the officers or volunteers are getting paid to run this service. The only person getting compensation is our bus driver.
How Much is it For My Student to Ride the Bus?
To sign-up your students and reserve a spot on the bus, it is a $30 non-refundable deposit per student. This money is kept in reserve for expenses for the bus such as maintenance, gas, repairs, insurance etc. The monthly fee is $50 per month, per rider. If there is more than one rider per family, the fee is $45 per month for each additional rider. That fee is per month, whether your child only rides one way or both ways. With the rising cost of gas, it’s still a very practical way to get your student to school.
Where Are the Bus Stops?
Our bus stops at the Washington Wal-Mart, Bloomington Wal-Mart and Ace Hardware. These were the obvious stops to accommodate as many riders as possible.
How Do I Sign-up?
Please fill out the attached form and return to Vista School. If you have any questions, please e-mail vistatransportation@yahoo.com. You can also join our group on Facebook at “Vista Transportation Organization (VTO)”. .......................................................................................................................................

9/12/11 Update
Dear Parents,
Here is some information you need to know:* Payment in full is due on the 1st of the month unless you have made prior arrangements with the owners of the bus. The monthly fee per rider is $50 for the 1st rider, $45 each additional rider. After the 5th of the month, it is considered past due and you will start accruing a late fee of $5 per day as our paperwork stated. If we do not receive payment by the 8th of the month, we will suspend bus privileges and not allow your rider to ride until payment is made. We hate to do this, but we have had several fees that have not been paid yet for September. We do have a waiting list and we will put them on and remove those kids that have had consistent late payments.
* As of Monday, there will be assigned seats on the bus. We have had several problems with kids not letting others sit next to them, making the kids at the last stop feel intimidated. We have 60 kids on the bus this year. We will have to triple up some seats. We will do that with the Kindergartners and 1st graders. Julie has been telling the kids that they can request whom they sit by, but if it becomes a problem, she will move them.
* We have also decided not to allow food on the bus unless you have made arrangements with the owners of the bus. Carrie, one of the owners, spent 3 hours on the bus Thursday cleaning the bus, only to have garbage left on it Thursday after school. Julie even made the announcement that they needed to clean up after themselves. We have told the kids that they can still drink water on the bus (as long as they don't throw their empty water bottles on the floor). School gets out at 3:05 and the bus doesn't leave the school until 3:15. This gives the riders who can't wait to get home to eat, plenty of time to eat prior to getting on the bus. We have also notified the kids that if they are caught eating on the bus, we will fine them $5. We hope to not have this rule the whole year, we would just like to enforce it and make sure that the students are mindful of keeping the bus clean.
* If your student gets off at the Washington Wal-Mart, please notify them that they cannot wait by the gas pumps for you to pick them up. We do not want to inconvenience Wal-Mart.
* Please make sure your riders know whether they are supposed to get on the bus or not, what stop they are supposed to get off at, whose supposed to get them etc. We have had some problems with all of these things. Julie cannot wait to make sure that kids are where they are supposed to be or that will put the other stops behind schedule.
* As always, remind your students of the bus rules. They need to treat Julie, each other and the bus with respect. Please remind them no yelling, bullying, standing up, walking around, rough-housing, etc.Thank you and as always, if you have any comments or concerns, please let us know,VTO

8/31/11 Update
Dear Parents,
Thanks to you and your riders for making the first few weeks of the bus a success. We've really appreciated how well your riders have behaved and hope that you will continue to remind them of proper bus etiquette. Please let them know that they need to behave as if they are in your vehicle or in class. They should not be standing up while the bus is in motion and they should not be yelling, screaming etc. We are committed to your riders safety.
Below are a couple of things that you need to know:
* Payment for September is due Thursday, September 1st. Payment made after the 5th will be considered late. The late fee was stated on the "VTO Information Letter 2011" that you signed. Any payment made after the 5th is subject to a $5 per day late fee. If you have multiple students and would like to set up a payment plan with us, it has to be submitted and approved. All payments can be made to Julie, the driver.
* Our bus is currently full. We do have a waiting list. If you do know of someone that wants to be added to our waiting list, please have them e-mail us at vistatransportation@yahoo.com. If your child has a friend that needs to ride home with them, we need to have an "Identified Risk of Participation" form filled out and signed by their parent prior to the ride. The form is attached to this e-mail. It can be given to Julie. The fee is $5 per ride.
* Please remember to have your children remember to bring water on the bus after school at least for the next few weeks to avoid dehydration.
* We absolutely do not tolerate bullying on the bus. If your child is being bullied, please let us know.
* The bus leaves at exactly the time stated on the "VTO Information Letter 2011". We will not stop the bus to pick-up your child if you are late. Please be considerate and make sure you are at the stop at least 5 minutes before the time stated.
Thanks again for your support of this program. If you have any questions or comments, please let us know.

8/13 Update
Dear Parents and Riders,
We are so excited for school to start on Monday!
We just have a few items to go over before Monday:
* If you haven't already handed in your paperwork and payment for August, it is due on Monday. Your child will not be able to ride the bus if we don't have all the paperwork turned in. Julie, the bus driver will have a receipt book and list ready. If your child rode last year and you have not updated your paperwork, it needs to be redone.
* For new riders the bus stops are as follows:
Washington Wal-Mart - up by the gas station
Bloomington Wal-Mart - by the road where Checker used to be in that parking lot
Ace - Up between the Snow Shack & the recycling bin
* Please remind your riders of proper bus etiquette. Standing, walking around, screaming, bullying, etc. will NOT be tolerated. Just remind your kids to respect the bus the way the respect your car, by following the rules. We did have to implement a seating chart last year and would rather not have to do that again. Please tell them not to vandalize the bus and to be respectful of our driver.
Again, if you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.
Thanks!
Carrie, Kim & Julie
