An exciting professional development opportunity has been made available to the teachers of Vista School. Thursday February 16thwill be a minimum school day to allow teachers to attend. Release time will be 12:35 p.m. If you paid for lunch that day you will need to go to Katering Koncepts website to cancel in order to receive your credit.
Students have been sent home with registration forms for the 2012-2013 school year. Please sign and return these forms as soon as possible. Additionally, 7th and 8th grade student fees of $90 will be due with their course registration forms and proof of Tetanus booster shots for 7th grade students. If we do not have your student’s registration form by February 17th the assumption will be made that your student is not returning, and their spot will be filled during the lottery. If arrangements for fees are needed please contact Kayla Clark at kclark@vistautah.com. If you have questions about registration please contact nrichins@vistautah.com.
Attached to this email is a list of the Kindergarten siblings that have been registered for the lottery. If your kindergartners name is not on the lottery list, you have until midnight tonight to submit their information.

- Vista is looking for volunteers to serve on the school’s Community Council. Please e-mail nrichins@vistautah.com if you would like an application. The Community Council Elections will be February 27th-Feb 29th.
- Vista is considering starting a beginner guitar class after school. If you are interested please fill out this Beginning Guitar Interest Form

NO SCHOOL MONDAY, JANUARY 16th! Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Vista School is considering a change to the 2012-2013 kindergarten schedule and would appreciate your feedback. With the proposed schedule, kindergarteners would attend school for the entire day every other Friday, as opposed to the current 2 hour school day every Friday. To offer your feedback please reply to this email.
If you are the parent of a current 6th grader please remember to schedule your appointment with your doctor for their Tetanus booster vaccine. This vaccine is required for all incoming 7th grade students.
If you have kindergarteners or other students who would like to attend next year please enter them in our lottery for the 2012-2013 school year on our website under the enrollment tab. Siblings will be given priority in the lottery.
Our Math Counts Competition Team did very well in their latest competition. We have posted the winners here.
Yearbooks are available for sale now until January 20th. You can now place your order online.
Items, such as bracelets, with inappropriate slogans are not allowed to be worn in school.

Oasis uniform supply will continue to sell Vista uniforms each Tuesday beginning again next week on January 10th from 2-5 pm.
We would like to remind you that Vista offers an after school program Monday through Thursday from 3:15 until 4 and on Friday from 1 until 3. This is an academic setting where students can get help with homework, read, or work on other quiet activities. This program can also be used for students who are waiting for siblings or carpools who are enrolled in any of our after school classes.

During pick up and drop off cars turning right into the parking lot must continue to the right, and cars turning left into the parking lot must continue left. Please follow the directions of our crossing guards in order to ensure our student’s safety.
There has been an addition to Vista’s uniform policy. Students will now be allowed to wear long sleeved layering shirts underneath their short sleeve polo. These shirts must be either white or match the color of their polo shirt.
The 7th and 8th grade dance will be held on Tuesday, December 20th from 7 until 9 p.m. Tickets are $2 if purchased in advance or $3 at the door. Dress is semi-formal, and school modesty standards still apply.

We would like to congratulate Mr. Smith’s 8th period A day class for being the winning class for selling the most Dixie Direct Book. They will be rewarded with a pizza party.
The new hours for Oasis Uniform Supply will be from 2:30-5:00 each Tuesday. Due to the Christmas Extravaganza performances next week Oasis will also be here on Wednesday and Thursday from 2:30 until 8.

This will be an academic setting where students can do homework, read, or work on other quiet activities. The charge will be $2 per hour per child. In addition, students not picked up by 3:15 Monday-Thursday or 12:45 on Fridays that are not registered in an after school class will be put in the after school program and parents will be charged. - Next Tuesday will be a minimum day and students will be released at 12:35. No lunch will be served and no after school classes will be held. Due to a misunderstanding, lunches were sold through Katering Koncepts for that day. If you ordered lunch for that day you must go onto their website and cancel in order to receive a credit.
- Again, school will dismiss at 12:35 on Tuesday, please be prompt with pick up.
- November 17-21 is the Jubilee of trees at the Dixie Center. For $1 per vote you can vote for the Vista tree. The school with the most votes will be awarded all of the money paid for those votes and will get a visit from the Life Flight Helicopter. Please see the flier attached to the weekly email for details on the Jubilee of Trees.
- In the event of bad weather, the red zone will dismiss 5 minutes early and the yellow zone will dismiss 5 minutes late. Watch for further details on the Vista website.
- Coach Carter is in need of volunteers for the Hoop Shoot on Friday, Dec. 2nd. Please click on our volunteer link, under the volunteer tab to sign if you are able to help.

- Tuesday November 22 and Wednesday December 21 are minimum school days and lunch will not be served. Due to a miscommunication lunches were sold through Katering Koncepts for those days. If you placed an order for either of those days please go to Katering Koncepts website to cancel the order and receive your credit. You can find the contact information under the Home Page/Contact Tab.
- Please pick your students up from school no later than 3:15 Monday through Thursday and no later than 12:45 on Fridays so that our teachers can attend parent meetings and use their prep time.

SEP’s will be held the week of November 14th. School will be dismissed at 12:35 all week and no after school classes will be held. Please click this link, - Home to sign up for an SEP appointment time. All other teachers will be in the gym and do not require an appointment time.
We’d like to thank you for your support with our new afternoon traffic procedure. Please remember that students must be picked up within 15 minutes of school’s release so that our teachers can return to their rooms for meetings and prep time.
To avoid classroom disruption student messages will be delivered the last period of the day. All student deliveries will be held in the office for your student to pick up with the exception of glasses, lunches or medication. If homework is delivered it will be placed in the teacher’s box.

Next week is the Scholastic Book Fair and will be open Monday through Friday from 8-4 and Wednesday from 8-8, with Tyler Whitesides (author of Janitor) book signing from 6-7 pm.
The Harry Potter Tribute show will be on Wednesday October 26thwith shows at 5 and 7 pm.
The Vista Transportation Organization is excited to announce that we have just worked out an afternoon kindergarten route that will start October 31st. We are hoping that this will help out our current riders and bring new riders to the bus and to Vista. The stop will be up on the Red Hill in the parking lot where the old movie theater used to be, 1036 E Red Hills Parkway. We feel that this is the most convenient spot, as it is very accessible from the freeway and to Vista. This service will be offered Monday-Thursday only. Drop off and Pick up will be at 11:45 a.m.
Next week is the last week for the Battle of the Grades contest.
Vista now has an online source to sign up for volunteer opportunities (click link). Current opportunities include reading, math, Scholastic Book Fair, Harry Potty show and Box Tops.

- Remember there is no school tomorrow and Friday October 13th and 14th.
- We are excited to announce Red Ribbon Week October 17-21. Our theme this year is “Reach for the Stars, Not Drugs”. We have fun contests and fun dress up days planned. Students must still follow dress code on these days with the following exceptions:
On Monday students will receive their wristbands. They should wear these all week.
Tuesday we’ll sock it to drugs with crazy sock day.
Wednesday we’ll stomp out drugs. Students can wear boots along with their regular uniform.
Thursday is Red Uniform shirt day.
Friday is Vista spirit shirt day.
- We’ve received reports of students loitering in people’s yards and on private property down Puerto Drive after school. Please talk to your students about respecting private property.
- Halloween costume day at Vista will be on Friday October 28th. Students will need to wear their school uniform on Monday October 31st.

- There is no school next Thursday and Friday October 13th and 14th.
- Jackets worn in the classroom must be uniform approved navy jackets or white or navy sweaters. Students can, however, wear any coat or jacket to and from school and at recess.
- For your convenience there is a new bully reporting tool on our website under the student tab.
- Red Ribbon week is the week of October 17th. Please see the flier attached for details about a student contest.
- Mrs. Carlson’s flashlight and lantern fundraiser will end on Monday October 17th so remember to submit your orders.
- Vista will celebrate Halloween on Friday October 28th. Students can wear costumes to school but no masks, face paint, blood, gore, or facsimile of weapons will be allowed. Students must come dressed in uniform on Monday October 31st.
- With the $500 we earned from winning the Boulevard Facebook contest Vista purchased 2 televisions that will be placed at the school’s entrances to display student’s technology and artwork.

- Those picking up on 400 E by the park please ask your students not to climb on the brick wall.
- Our math teachers are looking for volunteers to help grade papers on a regular basis. If you are interested please contact Mrs. Garrard at kgarrard@vistautah.com. We will have a short training for those volunteers.
- We are still holding our Battle of the Grades fundraiser. Please see our website under the Donation Tab for more information

- Be aware that hair feathers and other non-hair extensions are not allowed. Any hair extensions must match the student’s hair color.
- We have had large number of tardy students each morning. This is very disruptive to classrooms and excessive tardies will result in a required meeting with administration. Please make sure that your student is in their seat by 8:25.
- All students are invited to participate in the Battle of the grades fundraiser. Please see the flier attached to this email.

- Vista’s Jr. Music Program has kicked-off a solar flashlight, lantern, and spotlight fundraiser. If you are interested in purchasing any of these great items see the attached document.
- Thanks for supporting the Boulevard Home Furnishing Facebook contest. Vista won the grand prize of $500! Look for upcoming information about the Fabulous Freddy's contest.
- As the cool weather approaches we would like to remind you of the outerwear dress code. Any outerwear worn in the school must be solid navy in color. Sweaters may be white or navy. We also encourage you to put your student's name on all outerwear.

- A new Declaration of Household Income form was sent home with your student today. Please read the instructions carefully and return it next week. Federal guidelines changed after the initial form was sent out. Vista is required to ask that you fill out this form.
- Just a reminder, that school spirit shirt days are NOT every Friday. Please refer to the school calendar or your magnet for the approved dates.
