Home / Carson Smith Scholarship Program

Dear Parents,

The following information is provided for your reference should you be interested in private schooling for your eligible special needs student:

Special needs children who meet the requirements, or who have current eligibility as per the requirements under IDEA in the state of Utah, are eligible for the Carson Smith Scholarship, which is offered on a yearly basis.

As the parent of a special needs child who is eligible under IDEA, you have the right to be notified of the Carson Smith Scholarship no later than 30 days after the student initially qualifies for an IEP and/or annually, no later than February 1 for students who have a current IEP.

”School districts and charter schools are required by Utah law, 53A1a-704(10), to inform parents of students with IEPs enrolled in public schools, of the availability of a scholarship to attend a private school through the Carson Smith Scholarship Program.”

The address of the Internet website, maintained by the USOE, provides prospective applicants and their parents with program information and application forms for the Carson Smith Scholarship Program.  Please access the link below to learn more about the scholarship.

Scholarships are not a guarantee. Please read the requirements before you consider a private school.

If you have questions or concerns about this program, please contact Peggy Milligan at the Utah State Office of Education 801-538-7589.

Sincerely,

Special Education Director
