Tier 1 Interventions for Rushing Through Work
TIER 1 INTERVENTIONS FOR RUSHING THROUGH WORK
Before you start, here are a few important points:
- Try multiple interventions
- Each intervention must be tried for at least 2 weeks
- Collect and track specific data on each intervention tried and the effect of each intervention over the time it was implemented
- After at least 6 weeks, you may consider moving to tier 2 interventions.
- You must submit your tier 1 data to and speak with an administrator before moving to tier 2.
Tier I Interventions for Rushing Through Work:
- Alternative modes of completing assignments
- Assign a buddy or partner
- Break down assignment
- Break down directions
- Break, moving position in class
- Call on student frequently
- Call parent or note home
- Card flip
- Clear, consistent, and predictable consequences
- Deep breathing
- Engage student
- Explain assignment
- Explain directions
- Frequent eye contact
- Frequent home contact
- Have student repeat directions back
- Have student take frequent breaks, do errand, or active job
- Listen to music
- Logical consequence
- More structured routine
- Natural consequences
- Non-verbal cues
- Praise when cooperative and well-behaved
- Praise when on-task
- Proximity to students
- Redirection
- Rewards and praise
- Simple reward system
- Speak with student in hallway
- Take a break
- Take away privileges
- Talk one-on-one with student
- Talk to parent
- Teach coping skills
- Teach relaxation techniques
- Touch student on shoulder
