We are excited to announce our transition to the 95% Core Curriculum for classroom instruction replacing the CKLA Skill Component for K-3. This shift aims to align Tier 1 (core instruction) and Tier 2 (targeted intervention) strategies, creating a seamless learning experience for students. Research shows that when Tier 2 interventions are closely aligned with Tier 1 instruction, students achieve significant gains in reading comprehension, vocabulary, and overall content knowledge. This alignment maximizes instructional impact and supports student growth.
For the past two years, we have successfully used the 95% Group’s intervention materials for targeted support, and the results have been remarkable. Many students have made significant progress, closing learning gaps and building strong foundational skills. Building on this success, we believe that incorporating the 95% Core Curriculum into daily instruction will further enhance learning outcomes across all classrooms.
Additionally, in K-2, we are implementing the University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI) Foundations curriculum to strengthen our phonics instruction. UFLI provides systematic and explicit teaching strategies that have been proven to accelerate reading growth. Studies show that students using UFLI make substantial progress, with kindergarteners and first graders exceeding expected reading milestones.
To support our transition to the 95% Core Curriculum and the UFLI Foundations program, it’s essential to ensure that the instructional materials we use meet the highest standards and align with our educational goals. Our school follows the Utah State literacy curriculum adoption process ensuring we are selecting instructional materials that are research-based, effective, and meet the needs of all learners. Here's how the selection process works:
Open Review Process: Materials are carefully reviewed, and recommendations are made by a team.
Public Input: Recommended materials are shared online so parents and community members can review them.
Public Meetings: Two meetings are held where teachers and then parents can share their thoughts about the materials.
Board Approval: Materials are officially adopted in a public school board meeting.
Teachers have already been introduced to the 95% Core Curriculum and UFLI Foundations program to familiarize them with these evidence-based instructional materials. During the Board meeting on April 24th the school board will be reviewing both curriculums. To engage our community in this transition, we will be holding a stakeholder meeting on April 30th at 12:00pm to answer any questions you may have. We look forward to your participation as we work together to support student success!
