Campus Safety Update

Visitor Check-in Updates

To ensure the safety of our students and staff, we have updated our building entry procedures. All non-student and non-staff visitors entering past the main office during school hours must present a government-issued photo ID for digital scanning.

Single Entry Point: All visitors must enter through the designated main office Controlled Access Point.

ID Scanning: Office staff will scan your driver's license or state ID using an automated verification system.

Automated Destination Population: After scanning your ID, the check-in system will prompt you (or office staff) to select your specific destination or purpose in the building—such as a specific classroom, room number, or staff member.

Visitor Badge: Once verified, you will receive a printed badge that must be worn visibly while on campus.

Early Student Check-out Procedures

To protect student safety, we also enforce a mandatory photo ID check whenever a student is signed out before the regular dismissal bell.

Physical ID Required: Office staff will perform a manual inspection of your physical, government-issued photo ID prior to releasing any student. Digital photos can be accepted but must be front and back of ID.

Authorized Pick-Up List: Students will only be released to individuals listed as primary guardians or authorized emergency contacts in our official student record system.

Updating Contact Information: If an aunt, uncle, neighbor, or grandparent is picking up your child, please ensure they are added to your child’s emergency contact list ahead of time through the Aspire SIS portal or by contacting the main office. Unlisted individuals will not be permitted to sign out a student without prior written or verified verbal approval from a primary guardian.

Utah Code § 53G-8-806

Authorizes Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to implement electronic visitor management systems, identity verification, sex offender registry checks, and access logging.

Utah Code § 53G-8-806

Utah Admin. Rule R698-13

Establishes building security standards, requiring controlled entry points and identity verification for all non-student, non-staff visitors.

Utah Admin. Rule R698-13

Data Privacy & GRAMA Compliance

All scanned visitor data is protected under state records laws and used strictly for campus security purposes.

What Families Need to Know

Always bring photo ID: A valid driver's license or state ID is required every time you step past the front office or check out a student.

Plan for a few extra minutes: Check-in and check-out times may take slightly longer during busy school hours or event days.

Learn More: Review full state guidelines on the Utah State Board of Education Safety & Security Resources Page.

Lost and Found

Please label all items to help ensure their return to students! The Lost and Found is located in the hallway next to the lunchroom for items lost outside the classroom. Items lost in classrooms will be kept by teachers until collected by students or gathered at the end of the month for donation. Lunchboxes and water bottles left in the lunchroom and playground will be kept in the cafeteria for two weeks before being donated to a local organization. Please remind your student(s) to look for missing items each day. Parents are welcome to come in any day after school to check the hallway lost and found, or email teachers about a missing item. On the last Friday of every month, all unclaimed lost and found items are gathered and donated. Vista-approved uniform items that remain unclaimed for the month will be donated to the Vista School PTO. Please note that during the winter months, items may need to be cleared out or donated more frequently due to the high volume of coats and jackets.

How to Report an Absence

  • Daily Absences (Text/Email Link): If your student is marked absent, you'll automatically receive a text or email around 10:00 AM with a direct link. Simply click the link and fill out the quick excuse form for each day they're out!
  •  Extended Absences (5+ Days) & Unique Situations: Planning a family trip or navigating a unique situation? If your student will be away for more than five consecutive days, please reach out to the front office at least one week in advance so we can help you fill out a Planned Absence Form.

Have questions or concerns? Give our front office a call anytime—we're always happy to help!
